Description of Drs. H. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla is the people of Makassar and entrepreneurs with the flag Kalla Group. The business covers a variety of tissues in several areas. On October 20 he was sworn in as Vice President for a term of 2004-2009 paired with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. In December 2004 he was elected as Chairman of the Golkar Party.

Jusuf Kalla was born in Watampone, Bone regency, South Sulawesi on May 15, 1942 as the 2nd child of 17 siblings of the married couple Haji Kalla and Athirah, the entrepreneur who has a Bugis descent flag Kalla Group business. Kalla family business consists of several group companies in various industries. In 1968, Jusuf Kalla, became CEO of NV Hadji Kalla Under his leadership, NV Hadji Kalla developed from import-export business, expanding into areas of hospitality, construction, turnover of vehicles, shipbuilding, real estate, transportation, shrimp farms, palm oil, and telecommunications. In Makassar, Jusuf Kalla is known familiarly and called Daeng Ucu by the public.

Experience of student organizations Jusuf Kalla include HMI Makassar Branch in 1965-1966, Chairman of Student Council of the Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) in 1965-1966, and Chairman of the Presidium of the Indonesian Student Action Union (U.S.) in 1967-1969. Before plunging into politics, Jusuf Kalla has served as Chairman of the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry of commerce (Kadinda) of South Sulawesi. Until now, he still serves as Chairman of Family Alumni Association (IKA) in his almamater University of Hasanuddin, after deliberation re-elected in September 2006.

Jusuf Kalla has served as a minister in the era of the government of Abdurrahman Wahid (the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia), but dismissed with charges of corruption involved. Jusuf Kalla re-appointed as Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare under the government of Megawati Sukarnoputri (the 5th President). Then Jusuf Kalla resigned as a minister because forward as a candidate for vice president, to accompany presidential candidate Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
With the victory achieved by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as the 6th President, automatically Jusuf Kalla also successfully achieved the position as the 10th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia. Together with Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, both the President and Vice President are the first directly elected by the people.
He served as general chairman of Golkar Party replacing Akbar Tanjung from December 2004 to October 9, 2009. On January 10, 2007, he inaugurated the 185 board of Research and Development performance of the Golkar Party at the Office of the DPP Golkar Party in Slipi, West Jakarta, the majority of its members are scholars, public officials, civil servants, retired generals, and political observers who mostly hold master's, doctoral, and professors.
HM Jusuf Kalla, was married to Hj. Mufidah Jusuf, and blessed with a son and four daughters, and nine grandchildren.
Now, through the Indonesian Red Cross National Conference XIX, Jusuf Kalla was elected general chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross 2009-2014 period.
