However the Freedom Palace is always remembered since known as the official residence of the President, and its role as a center of state ceremonies. But besides that, the Freedom Palace seems to get more special place in the hearts of the Indonesian people because of its name Freedom. This name is not just a name, but has a history of celebrating the victory of the national struggle. But it also has a background on one historic event which marks the end of occupation in the Indonesia's earth fully sovereign in the palace.
The Historic event for the Indonesian nation and the Presidential Palace took place on December 27, 1949. At the same time in Amsterdam, Jakarta and Yogyakarta, a series of important ceremonies was carried out: the sovereignty recognition of Union Republic of Indonesian by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Event beginning in Troonzaal (Throne Room) in Amsterdam was ended with a special ceremony on the front yard of Freedom Palace in Jakarta, which was still called Gambir Palace at that time.
