Brief History :

foto Inggit Garnasih It has long time that Jalan Ciateul renamed with Jalan Inggit Garnasih. Who is she? Here's one article I found.
Bung Karno and H. Agus Salim have been in a long discussion about polygamy. Bung Karno was disagree as he considered polygamy is degrading the dignity of a woman and otherwise Agus Salim agreed because he has a deep understanding. A few years later they met, Bung Karno has many wife while Agus Salim remained marry to a woman.
Finally everything is returned in its intention. The remarkable one is Bung Karno's wife, Mrs. Inggit. If Bung Karno is fire then Inggit is the firewood. Inggit remove sweat when Soekarno becomes fatigue, Inggit entertaining when Soekarno lonely. Inggit sewed when Soekarno loosed his shirt button, Inggit present when the young Sukarno needed warmth both as a mother and a partner as well. Inggit for Soekarno was jst like Khadijah for Mohammad. The difference Muhammad has his faithful to Khadijah until she died while Soekarno married again, Inggrid then stepped to the gate of the palace and went home to Bandung, weaving her quitness.
In her dictionary there is only word to give and no ask. Inggit sold powder, mixed herbs and sewed vests for families. While Soekarno was just like a roaring lion from a podium to the next podium, his thoughts were devoted to the movement and the loyal Inggit look for the money. Inggit loves by love, unconditionally without any motivations. One night at Jalan Jaksa, their eyes met, Sukarno said: "I love you". Inggit blushed deeply while playing her end kebaya. That love brought Inggit with tenderness, without a voice without words, without language. That was such a very common and simple incident but indeed was such important event forgotten accidentally by the entire nation.
Inggit sit aside next to Soekarno in his isolation. Far on the island of Ende in Bengkulu, Inggit stayed with him, such a battery for Sukarnos life who felt suffer. But at the end of the colonial period Sukarno said to Inggit, "Euis, I will marry again for having children like everyone else."
"Okay then take me back to Bandung said Inggit.
"I do not mean that, you will still remain my queen. And will be the first lady if we have independence."
"No, just take me to Bandung." Inggit replied again.
Sukarno finally took Inggit to Bandung. Back to Jalan Tjiateul and Sukarno returned to Jakarta. In her loneliness Inggit always pray for the good of Sukarno. Inggit again sold for powder, mix herbs and sew the bra as her living.
He left her products to Delima store. Inggit never got complaining and crying. Her love to Soekarno the one and only because of love. No hurt because of being hurt, no selflessly and without motivation.
That busy and hot afternoon I passed by Jl. Ciateul which is now called Jl Inggit Garnasih.
The old house was painted, someone said Inggit used to live there and the house will be a museum. I saw it ... empty. Nothing is left by Inggit other than LOVE.
